We believe assisting students to achieve their dreams through higher education is one of the most satisfying ways we can support our young people, and in the long term our community.
The Lift Off Scholarship Program was established in 2014 as a response to the increasing number of our young people not able to afford the transition from secondary education to post secondary education, and over the past five years the scholarships have increased the number of students from the Goulburn Valley region who are able to pursue their education dreams.
A study has shown that young people from non-metropolitan regions in Victoria defer university studies at twice the rate of their metropolitan counterparts, and currently only half of our young people finish secondary school and a quarter go on to tertiary education.
Motivated by these alarming results, we partnered with the Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project to break down some of the financial, and other barriers our students faced.
The first scholarships of $5,000 each were awarded to five recipients from the Goulburn Valley in March 2015 and to date, more than 80 young people from our region have been supported with funds in excess of $250,000.
Education scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $5,000 are awarded to Victorian school leavers aged primarily 17-24 years for approved higher education courses including Diplomas and Bachelor programs.
Scholarships up to $10,000 and grants up to $50,000 are available in partnership with the Goulburn Valley Medical Workforce Fund, a
sub-fund of the Australian Community Foundation (ACF). The aim of the scholarship program is to increase the capacity of the medical workforce in the Goulburn Valley. Scholarships are available for students studying allied health, nursing or medicine; general practitioners, practice nurses and support staff to increase qualifications and skills; and grants for organisations providing recognised training to general practitioners.
With the growth in applications for the program increasing each year, the need for financial support is evident. Support from interested partners and events provide the funds for scholarships and assists to develop partnerships to expand the program.
Funds are accepted and held specifically for the purpose of the scholarships. Donations to Lift Off are 100% tax deductible. We are always seeking support for our scholarship program and invite interested partners to contact CEO, Cheryl Hammer, for more information. Email: email@example.com
